San Juan is a coastal municipality in the province of La Union in the Philippines. As of the 2010 Census, it had a population of 35,098 people. The town is considered as the "Surfing Capital of the Northern Philippines".
San Juan is bounded on the north by the municipality of Bacnotan along the Baroro River, and on the east by the municipalities of San Gabriel and Bagulin along the Dasay-Duplas-Nagyubuyuban Creek. On the south it is bounded by the City of San Fernando and on the west by the South China Sea.
By way of the Manila North Road, San Juan is some 8 kilometers north of San Fernando City, the capital of La Union and regional center. It is also some 277 kilometers north of Manila which can be travelled by road in about 7 hours.
The total land area of San Juan is 5966.40 hectares, which is 4% of the province of La Union. Some 505.08 hectares or 8.46% is claimed by the municipality of Bacnotan and San Fernando City.

HISTORICAL GROWTH OF POPULATION
The early census of population was recorded in 1903 to 1939 Annual percent change is quite slow at .40% but an abrupt change was observed staring 1948 wherein an average of 1.50 percent change was recorded up to 1970 where an annual percent change was recorded at 1.98 giving a total of 17,700 persons. The highest annual change was experienced in 1980 registering at 2.09 equivalent to 20,382 number of persons. Today on the latest 1995 census showed that San Juan has a total of 27,795 persons and is expected to increase side by side with the progress of development ongoing in San Juan.

The latest preliminary count on population by sex and barangay was conducted by the NSO. La Union Branch in 1995. The total population registered 27,795 while the total number of household was 5,383 distributed to 41 barangays.
Of the 41 barangays, Bgy. Taboc is the most thickly populated with a total population of 2,423 followed by Ili Sur and Ili Norte which registered a total of 2,058 and 2,045, respectively.
